A motor mechanic identified as Pius Obarakpo was allegedly beaten to death by suspected internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo’ at Ughelli metropolis in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that, Mr Pius Obarakpo, 42, a father of three was allegedly killed by his assailants internet fraudster over an argument between them few meters away from army station at Setraco construction company.
According to sources, What could have been averted unfortunately degenerated into a crisis that caused tragic death of Pius Obarakpo.
The sources said, “On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, two yahoo boys beats him to death at the front of his workshop along Ughelli/Warri road when they accused him of wanting to hit them with his vehicle while driving to his workshop.
On that faithful morning, he dropped his wife and kids off at her shop located at Akpodiete street and school respectively before heading to his workshop.
“It was after performing these daily tasks that he drove to his place of work along the Ughelli/Warri road,close to a popular hotel, and on getting to the entrance of his workshop, the two young boys was said to be standing on the road.
“He blared his horn severally, but the guys were adamant, prompting the deceased to find his way into his workshop.
“The two boys confronted him on why he want to hit them, in that process, a heated arguments ensued with both parties claiming right which escalated into fighting, and one of the boys used a shovel from a nearby block industry to hit him on his back head.
Another source who spoke on condition of anonymity told this medium that policemen at a check point close to the scene rushed down probably to intervene, but allegedly bundled the deceased, one of his apprentice and took him to an unknown destination at Uduere street in Ughelli.
The source however alleged that on getting to the place, a group of ‘Yahoo boys’ descended heavily on the deceased and beats him and his apprentice into coma before he was rushed.
“The boys took him to Ughelli Police station probably for arrest and the police ordered them to take him the hospital, they got to Ufor hospital but he was rejected and it was at Ughelli Central Hospital he was confirmed dead.
“As that was not enough, some of boys returned to the deceased workshop for more fight but unfortunately for they were overpowered by mobs and two, one Jerry and the other were arrested and handed over to the police.”
